Tube Stomach Surgery
It is a surgical method that we recommend for patients with a BMI above 30, who have tried dieting before but were unsuccessful, who cannot change their eating habits, or who have reduced life comfort due to their weight. The aim is to reduce the amount of food that can be eaten at one time, but does not interfere with the natural flow of the digestive system to reduce absorption. For this reason, we can say that there is no age limit.
It is an operation that takes between 40 and 60 minutes, in which 75-80% of the stomach is removed and shaped into a tube. This surgery is performed with the laparoscopic (closed) method under general anesthesia. It is performed by making 4-5 0.5 cm and 1 cm holes in the abdominal cavity. The remaining stomach is closed by stapling. The possibility of gastric fluid leakage is almost completely eliminated, thanks to the fact that the stapled area is made safer by suturing. In addition, we prevent bleeding, infection and twists (twisting of the stomach).
Since a large part of the stomach is removed, the stomach volume is reduced. A feeling of satiety occurs with less food. Although the amount of weight to be lost varies according to the current BMI of the patient, the average is; It is expected to lose 10-15 kg in the first week and 25-30 kg at the end of the first month. Weight loss continues for 1 year. With the support of a dietitian for 1 year, patients are given healthy eating habits to be practiced throughout their lives. The patient should be fed with liquid nutrition for the first 10 days and puree for the second 10 days after the surgery. The patient switches to solid nutrition in the third 10 days, adhering to the nutritional advice provided by the dietitian.
If there is any tumor finding in the body, this surgery cannot be performed. Patients using antipsychotic medication must obtain approval from their current doctor. Patients using blood thinners should stop this medicine before surgery. (about 5 days before surgery)
In addition, there are standard questions that we absolutely ask patients before surgery. According to the answers to these questions, the doctor makes the evaluation and if all the conditions are suitable, sleeve gastrectomy surgery is performed.
